For me, this is not a celebration of a new year but of a new identity for me; my true identity in Christ. This January 1st, I will officially be 2 years clean from drugs and alcohol. This is a huge accomplishment for me, as not only does it mark the day of my sobriety, but also a reminder that I am now 3 years in, consistently following Christ and never turning back. Time after time, I have run away from the call on my life; as a matter of fact, there are still times I try, but I no longer can; I'm in too deep. Not only have I encountered the One True God and He has revealed Himself to me, but I have also encountered the example of Grace through my pastor. Because he has consistently reminded me that when I fall, God saw. That everything I come up against, every flaw I face…every thorn in my side, is exactly why Christ died. He sees from eternity, and reshapes in the present. There is nothing hidden from Him, and what is hidden from us He reveals. Christ has used every aspect of my life, and is using every aspect of my life to mold me into what He created to begin with. In Christ, I may not be perfect, I may not always be holy, but I am whole. My perfection, my holiness, my obedience are dependent on His Work in me, and not mine through Him. This is Grace, this is restoration and reconciliation to the one in whom my identity rests. In Christ I am made new.
